Everyday Miracles
The reason most people don’t recognize the miracles that are performed on their behalf, is because there’s just so bloomin’ many of them.
Like this very moment…
And this one…
And this one…

After receiving this daily message in my inbox, I took a few minutes to look up our moment to moment miracles. After reading about them, I was again reminded how much is going on moment to moment that I/we simply take for granted. Here’s a bit of what I found.
1. We’re alive.
2. At each moment, our hearts are beating, pumping blood throughout our bodies, exchanging oxygen with carbon dioxide, all of it happening without our conscious awareness, and all without our conscious direction. This day alone, your heart will beat around 90,000 times. How many beats have you been aware of today?
3. At every moment of our lives, our lungs have continued to breathe, extracting oxygen from the air, inserting that oxygen into our blood stream while at the same time extracting Carbon Dioxide from the blood and exhaling it out. This day alone, you and I will breathe and repeat that process about 24,000 times. Somehow, that process happens automatically. How many breaths have you been aware of today?
4. All plants and animals have the ability to reproduce themselves, to allow the species to replace itself for eternity. Humans (and all animals and plants) can create new living beings complete with eyes, lungs, respiratory systems, reproductive systems, immune systems, the ability to think, speak, taste and feel, amongst other senses too numerous to mention.
5. The Human Immune System fights bacterial and viral invaders, keeping our bodies healthy through most of our lives. For amazing details, click here
6. 200,000,000,000 (200 Billion) new Red Blood Cells are created by each of our bodies every day, 400,000,000 (400 Million) new White Blood Cells are created by each of our bodies every hour.
7. Each of our bodies contains between 60,000 and 100,000 miles of blood vessels.
8. The temperature in our Solar System varies between -450 degrees Fahrenheit and +11,000 Fahrenheit . In contrast, the temperature of the habitable sections of Earth where we live varies between -20 degrees and +110 degrees Fahrenheit. This ability of our planet to maintain temperatures where water can thrive is inherent to our planet’s ability to support life.
All of this (and much, much more) has to happen continuously, just to allow us to experience life on this planet today.
“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” –
Albert Einstein
